Importance of Cleaning Pet Urine accidents and the Chem-Dry P.U.R.T. process
How do I remove urine odour? One word – P.U.R.T by Chem-Dry
ChemDry’s P.U.R.T. (Pet Urine Removal Treatment) is a ground-breaking product formulated specifically to eliminate pet urine odours. It proved to get exceptional and consistent results, even in the case of the most severe urine damage.
Urine in carpeting is a major problem that almost always requires professional restoration work. Regular carpet cleaning is simply not effective enough. But now with the revolutionary P.U.R.T. product your most severe urine damaged areas can be cleaned and restored, saving you hundreds or thousands of dollars in possible carpeting replacement costs.
P.U.R.T is an all-in-one bio-enzymatic product that will clean and remove ALL urine odours. It may also help to reduce dog urine, cat urine, and human urine stains and get rid of damages caused by common household accidents. P.U.R.T is equally effective on other surfaces – not just on carpet. It will permanently remove and clean urine odours from carpets, fabric, wood floors, cement, tiles, mattresses and other surfaces – guaranteed!
Is the Urine a Potential Health Hazard?
In its original acid state the urine begins to oxidise and react with the carpet to create a colour change, which will become permanent if the urine is not removed immediately. Some of this colour change can be attributed to the strong ammonia that forms as the urine passes through bacterial and chemical state change.
If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or carpet type, it will change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining and even physical damage to the fibre strand itself. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.
Why Pet Urine has stained and/or changed my carpet colour?
Urine can create a colour change in your carpet by oxidising while still in acidic state and reacting with the carpet. This change may become permanent if the urine is not removed straight away. Some of this colour change can be attributed to presence of ammonia that forms as urine changes its bacterial and chemical state.
Urine left for days or longer will change the dye structure and cause permanent staining and quite likely physical damage to the fibre, depending on the fabric or carpet type. The damage to the dye structure may already be done even if the soluble deposits are cleaned.
Why Is The Urine Odour So Pungent?
The urine odor is unmistakable and quite pungent. There are two reasons for that. First, that bad smell comes from odor causing bacteria that uses urine as a food source. Second, it also comes from uric acid crystals left behind in the carpet or rug. The crystals hydrophilic and draw water to them, which causes more problems.
Breakdown of the urine and enzymes that bacteria releases to break the urine creates amino acids, complex organic compounds that will become attached to carpet fibre, and if not cleaned – attached permanently. The waste materials and gases from the decomposing urine create a distinctive and very unpleasant odour. Re-moistening dried urine of releases ammonia gas and causes that strong, pungent odor.
Urine odour problems may be stronger when the relative humidity is high. As salts and crystals attract the moisture, the moisture evaporates putting out more odorous ammonia gas.
To get rid of the urine or pet odour you must get rid of the urine salts present in and under the carpet. Cleaning or sanitising urine spots WILL NOT remove urine odour. In fact, it could temporarily INCREASE the odour as cleaning usually is done with water.
Facts You Need to Know About Pet Urine in Your Carpeting:
Urine deposited on carpet does not stay on the surface – it goes right through the fibres, contaminates both the backing of the carpet and the flooring material below.
Once pets pee on the carpet, they may be attracted to the same place a pee again. Urine odours can then seep into the cement or wood floor, the framework of the house behind the walls, and finally permeate the whole house. That’s why you can sometimes smell dog or cat urine from the hardwood floor after you remove the old smelly carpets.
As the urine dries, the liquid evaporates but the urine crystals become even more concentrated and pungent releasing a much stronger smell.
Simple cleaning doesn’t remove urine odour. Until recently, there was not a product that was effective at removing pet urine odours. Our product P.U.R.T has changed that. P.U.R.T starts a chemical reaction with the source of odour destroys it.
How P.U.R.T. works
- First, we determine the source and severity of the odour using specialised tools and detection aids, whether it’s dog urine odour, cat urine odour, or human urine odour.
- We remove the bulk of the urine crystals by rinsing the carpet and then extracted the crystals with a hot water rinse.
- The carpet may be pulled back in in some parts to reveal the extent of the damage.
- In severe cases, the underlay will be removed and replaced.
- An odour blocking shellac may be applied to the subfloor if determined necessary (in the worst cases).
- U.R.T will then be applied heavily to all areas affected by the urine to dampen them. We match the amount of P.U.R.T with the amount of urine present. Get this right and we can guarantee the results.
- Over the next 24 to 48 hours (sometimes longer), the ingredients in P.U.R.T. will react with the urine, and break down the odour causing components. While the product is working and the chemical reaction is taking place, the off-gassing and urine odour may increase.
- This chemical reaction is eradicating the urine at a molecular level so all traces of the odour causing bacteria are removed.
- Once the chemical reaction has ended, the P.U.R.T cleaning process has been completed. You can now enjoy your odour-free carpet that’s fresh and hygienic. A truly amazing result!
Determining the right quantity of P.U.R.T required to clean a particular carpet requires product knowledge, strong skills, and a lot of experience to assess each situation. It’s like looking into a crystal ball. In some cases, we may not get it right and miss some areas. When that happens, we need to return to apply P.U.R.T to those missed spots (an additional charge would apply for the P.U.R.T product, but not for subsequent cleaning).
We need to match the quantity of urine in your carpeting with enough P.U.R.T to counteract the odour causing particles, so if we recommended that 3 batches of P.U.R.T are required for your problem, and you decide you only want to proceed with 2 batches, then we cannot and will not guarantee the result.
However, if we use the recommended amount, then we will stand behind the process with a money back guarantee of the P.U.R.T product (please note that we will not refund the carpet cleaning cost as this has nothing to do with the P.U.R.T product, rather its job is to remove dirt and embedded soils from your carpet).
Removing Pet Urine Odour from Rugs
Urine marks caused by pets are possibly the most common of all stains in area rugs. They present a big problem because urine changes the chemical composition of dyes once it has had a chance to set. The urine often causes non-reversible physical damage to the rugs. Still, the biggest request we get is about the urine odour rather than the stains.
Removing urine odour from a rug is a very different set of steps compared to wall to wall carpeting.
ChemDry Care has a purpose-built rug spa where urine contaminated rugs are submerged in an odour-counteracting spa treatment and flushed. The process takes several stages of urine treatment, then the rugs are thoroughly dried in a controlled environment to ensure that no traces of moisture remain.
This unique process in our wash pit removes all traces of urine even from very thick rugs. We guarantee the total odour removal or your money back.
If your home is affected by even the smallest amount of pet urine, do not wait till the problem increases and the odour is unbearable. Contact us for a no-obligation free estimate to avoid health risks or higher costs later on.
